This summer has been amazing but busy. If it were just me, I would probably spend my days just lounging around at home, drinking tea, painting things. I am definitely an indoor cat. But my boys are of the outdoor variety, so I've been trying to stretch a little bit in that direction. Oliver had his first round of swimming lessons in June, and passed with flying colours. He loved it, but couldn't stop asking when he'd get to "swim with no teacher!" It was almost cruel, asking these four-year-olds to listen to instruction with water slides and squirt guns in every direction. To celebrate his completion, we did hop by the pool for a little swim, and told him he could go down the slide "One hundred times." which I'm fairly sure he actually did do.

While Oliver was sliding, Theodore spent some time on the playground causing trouble. That kid is so high energy, and sneaky, and mischievous. Most of the time he's only ten feet away from you but you can't see where he is. And then the next thing you know he's across the park, or climbing on top of something not intended for climbing. I'm always reminding Matt "He's not bad, he's just bored." and trying to convince myself that he just has a creative mind, which is why it's always so busy and looking for new ways to do things. I'll just keep telling myself that.

We also got a new playground in the back yard all set up now, though Oliver almost never plays on it since he doesn't like to play by himself. He loves to play with other kids, and everywhere we go he spends his time recruiting kids around his age (sometimes much older) to play whatever scenario he's cooked up. He gets mixed responses to be sure, but it never seems to phase him when another kid isn't interested in his games. He's always more than happy to follow behind them and watch whatever they're playing. He's such a special, soft, warm and loving boy and sometimes I just want to punch the other kids on the playground for not wanting to play with him, but it honestly seems like he doesn't mind. And I shouldn't go around punching strange children anyway.
