Sunshine was very sick last night, throughout most of the night. Something flu-like, though it seems he's mostly recovered from it by now. He's been peering through windows longing to go outside and explore. It's hard for him to be anchored down, even when he's feeling like garbage. He's been doing a lot of bird watching lately, and today spotted what we later discovered to be a Common Grackle, which we promptly cataloged in his Adventure Book. Then later he spotted a little chipmunk on our back steps, and got it in his mind that it was definitely our responsibility to feed him, though every time he approached the little guy went scampering back into his hole. Oliver stood on the other side of the screen door whispering, "It's okay, Mr. Chipmunk. I'm not scary, I won't eat you. I'm friendly." Eventually he got pretty close, and tossed some sunflower seeds his way. He is so very sweet and gentle, with such a heart for animals and nature and science. Kids don't get much better than this.
