I mom'd so hard today. I honestly don't know where it came from, or what surge of energy came over me, but after promptly cleaning and sterilizing the entire main floor of our house, the boys and I all made sugar cookies together, in Christmas shapes. Then after lunch we headed outside for two hours and
Which, by the way? Oh. My. Goodness.
That was the best workout of my life. I had no idea what I was promising when I squealed "Who wants to go outside and build a snowman??" That was the hardest task EVER. Rolling the big balls around the yard on my hands and knees, and then somehow hoisting ball #2 up onto ball #3? Unbelievable. We even took out a shovel to dig up some of my carrots from the garden so Sticky (Oliver's name choice) could have a proper nose. So much effort, though, and I'm calling total bull shit on the notion that I ever built one of these by myself as a kid. I muts have just had some pretty amazing parents, who somehow convinced me after the fact that I'd done it all by myself. There's just no freaking way.
So now I'm soaking wet and panting, but we actually had an amazing time outside. I figured this winter could take a turn for the cold any day, and we ought to really take advantage of the 1 degree temperatures today, especially since I promised Oliver on the first day of snow that we'd build a snow man as soon as the snow was sticky enough. So we shoveled, we sledded in the ditch, and we snowman'd. And it was sort of surprisingly delightful? My day definitely flew by! Now it's time to throw the snow pants and mittens into the dryer while I help myself to a big cup of hot chocolate. This evening we'll finally get around to setting up the Christmas tree, and I'll really be in the holiday spirit!
