So did you guess it right??
I most certainly did. Although I bet we had you bitin' your nails with the long drawn out "It's... a... little... baby..." But that was kind of the point, so forgive us.
We couldn't wait to tell our families what our little dumpling was, so the Saturday after our ultrasound we hopped out to Altona where my mom and brothers reside, and thought we would just be showing that little gem of a slideshow to everyone. Little did we know that my mom had a nice little shindig all planned up for us.
We told my dad first by taking him out for some pizza at a new local restaurant. Then we played him the slideshow on our iPad. He was very excited.
In the evening my mom set up a whole party for us, complete with munchies...
And a cake!
She picked out a happy little rainbow cake from the supermarket, and found a question-mark candle to pop on top. Just the sweetest ever. And don't mind that giant blue icing smear on the side - little cake-opening mishap. I still think it looks lovely. :)
We went through a list of old wives tales first to see what they would predict Baby would be.
They seemed to lean in the boy direction, but there were a few points in the girl's favour.
Then we made sure to get everyone's final votes on the whiteboard on the fridge (no going back now!)
I guess since Matt and I were both so confident that it was a boy, everyone else was too. And with my mom, I think it was just wishful thinking. I don't blame her - she had five sons and one daughter! She's lookin' for some more estrogen around the house! I totally get it.
And then we watched What to Expect When You're Expecting (which was highly appropriate for the situation) and immediately after we all watched the slideshow on the big screen TV!
Everyone was extremely excited. My brother Ben even insisted that the people who guessed right should get some kind of prize, or naming rights or something. Mmmmmm, no. And my mom was equally as excited too, and immediately hugged me and started crying. Classic Mom.
Then we blew out our question-mark candle, all had some chocolate cake, and sat down to watch the ultrasound DVD, in which our little peanut makes it very, extremely obvious that he is, in fact, a BOY.
Overall it was an extremely happy and fun evening! We weren't expecting to get a party, but in the end we got one and it was absolutely wonderful.
The next day we headed back home to tell the news to Matt's family. Together with his mom, his brother Ryan, his sister Marrina, and his cousin Ashley, we ordered some pizzas and all watched the video on the TV, and had a great chat about it afterward. His sister was especially stunned as to how odd it felt to know what the baby was. "This is how you guys felt when you knew what mine was!" she said, introspectively. It was a nice low-key evening.
Can't wait to meet you, baby BOY!
